VIVA FOUNDATION UK

Since November 2019, Viva has been registered as a Charity in the United Kingdom under the name Viva Foundation, UK.  The registration number is 1186373. 

Strict UK Lockdown restrictions made it impossible to open a bank account and begin operations, until late in 2021.  

A Bank Account in the name of the Charity was opened and in 2022, activities will commence, firstly virtually, with the possibility of a trip to the UK with the Viva Children's Choir, if travel restrictions are lifted.

Outcomes for the Viva Foundation e.v. Germany

  • No annual tour took place during 2021 as a result of travel-bans and Covid19 Lockdown measures
  • Sponsors for monthly Child- and Sponsor-a-Teacher sponsorships continued their funding and received reporting
  • Successfully submitted financials and maintained non-profit, tax deductible, public benefit status and successfully renewed 'Freistellungbescheid' [Non-Profit Status] 
  • Board meetings and planning continued to take place online, via Zoom meetings 
  • Commenced with Capoeira Classes in Hamburg, presented by Jose Ribeiro.

Outcomes for Volunteering

Volunteering took place at Food Distribution points from Melville and Johannesburg and also Tshwane districts in addition to the existing distribution taking place at Viva Village and Viva Connect. 

Virtual Volunteering took place with the assistance of the ForGood platform, with volunteers giving online lessons, Social Media awareness campaigns and online giving. 

Outcomes for the focus area - The Arts

Viva Township Art Project was moved to the curriculum of the Viva Independent School campuses 

  • Bi-weekly music tuition to all grades of the Viva Village Independent School, Mamelodi East
  • Bi-weekly music tuition to all grades of the Viva Village Independent School, Refilwe Campus
  • Weekly online art tuition at the Viva Village Independent School, Refilwe Campus
  • Choir practicing and performing at Viva events. 
  • Choir recording back-up vocals for Heidi Tiplady, UK. 

Outcomes for the focus area - Sexual Violence Prevention & Response

SAPRI - South African People's Response Initiative activities were taken online in the form of awareness campaigns and consultancy in advocacy by the Viva CEO. 

Outcomes for the focus area - Poverty Alleviation

Viva Enterprise Development Programme

  • Establishing two development groups supporting women in business start-up in the form of training and micro-loans.

Viva Village Independent School

  • Added Grade 7 to the existing Grades
  • Music Tuition on Mondays and Thursdays
  • Computer training on Mondays and Thursdays
  • Sport Day 12 May
  • Viva Children's Choir continued to practice and perform at in-house events e.g. school graduation and year end functions
  • 320 learners at two campuses
  • Grade 7 Camp to Dinokeng Nature Reserve with learners and faculty
  • Very successful Graduation and Year End Ceremonies for different Phases staged at Viva Village and Refilwe Campuses

Family Support

  • Identified and supported extremely vulnerable families in the Alaska Informal Settlement, Johannesburg Metros, Greater Tshane district and Refilwe 
  • Distributed 600 blankets donated by HCC
  • Distributed Christmas Gifts to 450 children in Mamelodi and Refilwe
  • Food parcels, vouchers and support to the value of over 2 million meals, plus supporting a Baby Safehouse and two Older Persons Homes
